Philippe Coupey

Philippe Coupey (Rei Ryu Philippe Coupey) is an American who’s been living in Paris for over three decades. Educated at the Sorbonne, he is a writer, and has been for many years a disciple of the Japanese master, Taisen Deshimaru, who brought Zen to Europe. Coupey is both a monk and master living alone in the city, continuing the daily practice he was taught. He directs a large European community of monks and nuns. He is a member and officer of the International Zen Association, AZI.
